On Dec. 2, Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten accompanied Bennett Elementary fifth-grader Shane Wells to school. Witten's visit was a part of the National Football League's Take a Player to School program sponsored by JCPenny. Bennett's library media specialist Beth Roland submitted photos that will be featured in the Dec. 12 issue of Mckinney neighborsgo.
Students at Hackberry Elementary in Little Elm (west of McKinney) also received a visit from Mr. Witten Tuesday morning.

Then check out City Girl's story on neighborsgo about The Colony's girls basketball team helping out senior citizens at the local community center. The team made and delivered gift bags to citizens at the community center, showing their heart extends both on and off the court.

St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School teacher Leslie Avery is one of 15 Work of Heart award winners. Avery teaches 1st grade and is described as providing Inspiration, encouragement and devotion to her students. These traits along with many others won her the $500 grant from The Catholic Foundation.
