Too Human

C+For Xbox 360. Rated for ages 13 and up. $59.

VIKINGS IN SPACE: Too Human is one of the most famously delayed games in history, and the mere fact that it is now a real game seems like a small miracle. But too much time in the oven rarely results in a good game, and Too Human – a confusing fusion of futuristic technology, Norse mythology and Lord of the Rings-envy – definitely feels like a 2-year-old title.

HACK AND SLASH: The plot is a melodramatic muddle about rebellious robots hunting wimpy humans. A group of Norse gods/computer-enhanced humans is protecting the regular humans, and you play as one of the Viking cyborg gods. The core of the game, though, is straightforward sword and gun combat that takes place in huge levels with scores of enemies who drop piles of armor, weapons and other upgrades when you kill them.

BOTTOM LINE: Too Human is mostly plagued by a host of small issues: a problematic camera, lame animation, huge battlefields that are mostly empty and a plot that makes no sense (I played Too Human before its retail release, so I couldn't find any other players to test the online component). There are moments of fun, but they're too rare.
